Q+A: RADIO COMPASS

As we prepare for the 2019 RUMBLE, get to know the bands. We sent out a list of questions and asked the bands to pick 5.

RUMBLE Q+A: RADIO COMPASS

1] Band member dynamics are fun, right? Introduce us to your band, share nicknames and bad habits.

Angela: While I have a been a leading lady for many a times and years, I have yet to perfect the art of speaking in the microphone during practice and I mumble…the only reason I sometimes notice this is because I can feel Jill’s eyes burning firey holes in me. And I never fully close tops on containers, but I’m working on it.

Jill: Owns an actual pair of bitch socks. (Angela gave them to me). Moody, fun, sleepy. Likes to drink wine.

Kerry (also know as ‘Myra’ in some circles): Extreme temperatures are not my friend. I’m usually uncomfortable in cold weather, and you will most likely hear about it at practice. (ANgela: there was a bit of an identity crisis with K first joined. I called her Kerry, everyone else called her Myra. we collectively tried MK.)

Franklin: I’m the new guy. Youngest member of the four of us. If the girls have a nickname for me, I haven’t heard it yet. (Angela: We call him “Young Franklin”or Mr. Siplis, there’s room for many more). My worst habit is probably leaving my empties around regardless of where I am.

Fun facts

Angela: I’m not the only one of my name in this band, Let’s just say a certain drummer I know is really named AnnJilla. Real talk.

Jill Was kicked out of The  Brownies.

Kerry: Unassuming high school prom queen. I was pretty sure they were going to dump pig’s blood on me. But thankfully that didn’t happen.

Franklin:’m a national champion hockey player. (I was about 13 at the time, but it still counts, dammit.)

Angela: I was Softball MVP of the Springfield Wildcats (preteens). Not as impressive but I still nonchalantly through it in here and there (like such).

2] Songs that give you feels?

Angela: I mean, I could say Band of Horses “No One’s Gonna Love You” jam but to be honest? Tupac “Changes” is the tune that gets me every. damn. time. Legit brings me to the status of officially “weeping”.

Jill: Missle by IAMX

Kerry:  “Eulogy” by The Flatliners makes me cry every time I hear it.

Franklin “Jesus Of Suburbia” by Green Day.

3] What’s a guilty pleasure of yours?

Angela: Easy – Young Adult Fiction and Trina’s Starlight Lounge veggie dogs. I have dreams about them (hotdogs, not young adults) I travel 30+ miles to get them, more often than I should (and order the same dish “to go” on the DL which I normally eat on the train home) under the guise of “meeting up with Somerville friends”. And pretty much anything with Synth. And the Titanic… Duh.

Jill: Shoes and hats. Electronica.

Kerry: Anything and everything 80’s: music, movies, fashion, pop culture etc.; Dancing in the livingroom to silly commercials on TV. (…Interesting, I did not know this–Angela); A good spinach and feta pizza

Franklin: Clothes shopping. Fruity drinks with umbrellas in them. Ke$ha.

4] What are three records you have played so much you have replaced them in your collection?

Angela: I was more of a cassette gal myself but certainly The First Two Records- Bikini Kill, Reggie & the Full Effect’s Promotional Album, a lot of Coheed, and most of my Lunachicks records for sure. If you ever have participated in a kitchen dance party at my house, a Lunachicks song always makes its way into the mix. But I didn’t have to replace them because Spotify lured me in like a Siren. The records and CDs are brought out on special occasions, like popping open a vintage red.

Jill: Bloodsport by Sneaker Pimps, Electric Cafe by Kraftwerk, Modern Life is Rubbish by Blur

Kerry: Scream Dracula, Scream – Rocket From the Crypt; The Cramps – Bad Music for Bad People; Energy – Operation Ivy

Franklin: “Cuban Ballerina” by Dead To Me, this old British two tone ska compilation I forget the name of, and Dookie.

5] This year has been heavy on band biopics. Who’d play your band members in the movie?

Angela: Celebs are not my forte but probably Mary-Louise Parker Weeds-era or a young Sandra Bullock because everyone tells me I look like them. I do think either of those would suffice- swift pendulum of serious business and ridiculousness.

Jill: Pink

Angela: Bahahhahahahhaha, oh my God, perfect.

Kerry: Lauren Ambrose?

Angela: Who dat?

Franklin: I don’t care, as long as it’s not the dude that played Rufio in “Hook.” I’m tired of being told I look like that guy…

Angela/Kerry: Oh my God, you do!
