LOOKING GLASS WAR
GODDAMN GLENN | VOCALS
PETE ZEIGLER | GUITAR
MIKE ACKLEY | BASS
TONY PORTER | DRUMS
In the Fall of 2022, Goddamn Glenn and Tony Porter (both of Parlour Bells) came together with fellow Boston scene veterans Pete Zeigler (The Easy Reasons, The Rationales) and Mike Ackley (Strangeways) to see what would happen when this group of seasoned indie musicians made noise together. Each needed it as much as the others. The spark was immediate. A new post-punk-meets-glam sound emerged, melding Glenn’s theatrical vocals with Pete’s shimmering and sputtering post-punk guitar, all driven by Mike’s propulsive UK bass lines and Tony’s precise beats. They called it Looking Glass War. Glenn and Tony are both Massachusetts natives and currently live in Medford, Massachusetts. Mike is from Manchester UK, attending University in Leeds, before eventually relocating and settling in Sudbury. Pete grew up in the Finger Lakes of New York before relocating to the Boston area several years ago, and is now based out of Maynard, Massachusetts. Glenn and Tony are both in Parlour Bells, while Mike and Pete bring years of prior Boston scene experience to the table as well. Mike’s time in Strangeways included opening dates for The Horrors, while Pete’s resume includes stints in Hey Now Morris Fader, The Rationales, and The Easy Reasons. In fact, Looking Glass War includes not one but TWO prior Rumble participants, but it goes even further than that. Pete and Glenn were BOTH in the 2012 Rumble, with Glenn leading Parlour Bells into the fray and Pete helping The Rationales to the Semi-Finals. They even played on the same night in the first round! With Glenn’s soaring and theatrical vocals mated to Pete and Mike’s UK-inspired instrumentation, driven by Tony’s precise and driving beats, the Looking Glass War sound came together as something new, but familiar. “One of the things I try for is to build a sense of familiarity in something that is entirely new – like a song that COULD have been on your favorite mixtape, but doesn’t sound like anything else on that tape” says Pete.
