The “first official” Rumble took place at the Rat in Kenmore Square. It was 1979 and 104.1 WBCN, The Rock of Boston, was behind the grand battle of the bands. The Neighborhoods and La Peste duked it out for the crown with Classic Ruins, Lyres, Mission of Burma, Thrills, Unnatural Axe among the Class of 1979. The ‘Hoods were victorious.
The Rumble remains the longest running event of its kind in the country.
