What an incredible month for live rock & roll – a fact that cannot be overstated. This is cause for great celebration. We proved that Boston rock is alive and quite well, thank you very much, over the course of nine steamy nights at ONCE Ballroom in Somerville. When it all came down Friday night, Set Fire’s elevating presentation brought them to victory once again. A solid set of loud magic, Jess, Jim, and Rob brought the house down with sheer power and stellar musicianship.
Corner Soul showed up as a virtual unknown on their preliminary night, got the wild card not once but twice, and won the entire city over by the end with their glamfunkdancepunk presence.
PowerSlut brought clever and unwavering hook-laden rock to the mix. And their unicorn army were there every step of the way.
Special guests, and 2017 champions, Carissa Johnson & the Cure-Alls showed everyone what two years of solid touring can do for a band’s live performance. Special guests special guests, Damone’s Noelle LeBlanc, The Devil’s Twins’ Nicole Coogan, and Stars Like Ours’ Kristin Holliday piled on to this friendship fest.
